LT6 MANUAL COVER

The LT6 Panel aids in the bench testing of VHF Communication and Communication/Navigation equipment. A vast improvement over the old LT 5 Panel. The LT-6 Panel has added the ability to use serial control heads, navigation indicators, a speaker on the panel for speaker or phone channels, mike testing, use of the LA cable series harnesses, digital panel meter, and 56 test point jacks.

The serial control heads of the unit under test can be connected by optional control head cables to the DD-50 Control Buss connection (P4) on the panel face. This connection is documented in detail later in this manual and with this information the customer can custom make cabling to connect their buss simulators to the panel in place of the serial control head. This added feature provides the ability to check those serial controlled 8.33MHz units.

The LT 6 Panel provides for the connection of navigation indicators for use with those Comm/Nav units with navigation outputs. The cables for the Navigation indicators are the same as those used by the LV 6 test panel, there by reducing the number of cables needed in a shop’s inventory. Also, the LT 6 panel can provide the loads and metering of the navigation outputs with or without an indicator connected. This is why the new LT 6 harness series replaces many of the old LA series harnesses where multiple connectors are used for indicators and do not provide for metering or test point jacks.

With the addition of a panel speaker on the LT 6 Panel, the panel allows monitoring of either the speaker channel output or phones/intercom/aux audio outputs. These outputs RMS voltages are metered by the panel mounted digital meter.

Pilot Headset testing is provided on the LT 6 Panel for checking mike and headphone operation. This popular feature was carried over and improved from the LA 6 Panel. Provides a fast GO/NO-GO check of the pilot’s headset.

There are many of the old LA harness series cables out there, so a LA cable connector is include on the LT 6, so customers can continue to use them. However, it is suggested that you check out the new version of the LT 6 harness for the unit you are testing because many have much improved testing abilities.

A digital panel meter with meter switch allow for monitoring the following: DC Volt, DC Amp, 26AC Volt, Speaker output, Comm phone output, Aux Audio output, Nav Flag, Nav Dev, GS Flag, GS Dev and TO-FROM Flag. Also included to aid metering are Deviation and Flag load switches providing from 0 to 5 1000-ohm loads.

The LT 6 panel has 56 test point Jacks to monitor an assortment  signals.

The LT 6 has a cabinet back and can be rack mounted or used as stand-alone. The Panel is 7 inches high, 19 inches wide and 5.25 inches deep. The standard color is Precision Tan with Brown knobs and Brown lettering.

The LT 6 does not come with a control head. If one is needed it must be ordered separately.

1.10 INTRODUCTION

The LinAire Model LT 6 Test Panel is designed to provide bench test facilities for control and instrumentation simulation of Communication and Communication/Navigation units with VOR or GPS navigation outputs. The LT 6 allows for the use of a Comm units serial control head or the connection of customer supplied serial control buss simulator. The Panel can be used to test the Navigation part of the unit under test with or without a navigation indicator connected to the Panel. Each new harness for the LT 6 Test Panel is delivered with documentation showing signal test points and notes to aid testing.

The panel operates Communication Transceivers including those with built in navigation receivers.

The panel provides the connection for Navigation Indicators used with the receivers for system testing. Most of these indicators can be tested on the LT 6 panel without a receiver connected to the panel.

The panel provides connection of both serial and parallel controllers. Serial data is patched through the LT 6 to the unit under test from a serial control head or other serial data sources. Backward compatibility with the LT 5 allows the use of the LTC control heads and the main harnesses:  with the exception of pin 28 in the DPX 57 connector which should be disconnected in the old LT 5 harnesses for use on the LT 6 panel.

METERING

Metering is provided by a panel mounted digital meter. The meter switch selects the following inputs:

DC Volts DC Amps

AC Volts (26)

RMS (speaker channel) RMS (Com channel)

RMS (aux audio)

NAV FLAG (0 to 5 - 1K meter loads) NAV DEVIATION (0 to 5 - 1K meter loads)

GLIDE SLOPE FLAG (0 to 5 - 1K meter loads) GLIDE SLOPE DEVIATION (0 to 5 - 1K meter loads)

TO-FROM FLAG (200 ohm meter load)

TEST POINTS & SWITCHES

The panel has 56 Breakout Jacks for access to a variety of signals and functions.

COMMUNICATION section provides the following common test points and switches.

Metering of the supply voltage and current draw

Microphone input (with mike test function for testing pilot’s mike)

Key Switch & Lamp

Panel speaker (monitors speaker or phone/interphone channels)

Squelch control and Disable

Tuning Lamp Indicator

Serial or Parallel controller selection

Headphone Output Jack (monitors phone/interphone & aux audio channels)

Test Point Jacks for - Audio (mike audio Comm input), Audio (mike intercom audio input), Audio (Comm audio out), Audio (sidetone / aux audio out), Audio (speaker audio).

NAVIGATION section provides the following common test point and switches.

Metering of Deviation and Flag outputs

Loading for the Deviation and Flag outputs

Test Point Jacks for Deviation and Flag outputs

ILS energize switch

BNC connection for Composite out

Test Point Jacks for OBS signals (provision for connection of precision track selector)

PANEL ACCESSORIES

Frequency Control Head for parallel tuning. LTC 6 provides tuning from 116.00MHz to 151.975MHz(2of5) and 118.00 MHz to 135.95MHz (King BCD).

Cables to patch in the King and Collins serial control units through the panel to the unit under test.

Cables (LVI harnesses) to connect Nav Indicators to panel for system testing of units with Nav Receivers.

PANEL FACE

The decorator colors and improved layout enhance shop appearance. Panel color is Precision Tan and has Dark Brown lettering with brown and gold knobs. The panel is suitable for rack mounting or stand alone and measures 7”H X 19”W X 5.25”D.
